CALL AND MAIN GOALS

Migration data and research in the recent times has been on both political and economic spheres.  However the bold efforts of the European and African countries to create a respected platform for discussion and creating solutions on both ends have not always produced significant outcomes.

The Conference intends to contribute for a better understanding and to open practical channels for an inclusive dialogue in the current conditions of irregular migration in Europe.

It builds on the Rabat Process, which looks for innovative solutions for Migration challenges and on the Human-Centred Approach, prioritizing the dignity and rights of migrants.

Coincidentally the Migration Observatory Lab 2025-2030 project at the Center for African Studies University of Porto is an off shoot of post Portugal Chairmanship of the Rabat Process and to be a Knowledge Partner as Nigeria Chairmanship starts from 2025-2026

Climate Change Migration

Recent climatic changes globally has created a new wave of Migrants. This is where climate change triggers Migration and displacement caused by flood, drought, sea level rise, desertification,  etc Hence the question is "who is qualified as a Climate migrants"? plus innovatively creating the designation of "climate refugee" is what Researcher need to explore.

-Migration and Media Collaboration

The power of the media is huge  and that perception is everything. The narrative of Migration in the media need to be fact check so the economic component and impact of Migration can be share and communicated effectively with the public.

-Migration Sustainability

What are the Sustainable models for the fast  changing dynamics of Migration from country to country.

With over 258million migrants around the world living outside the country of birth, there is need to utilize the United Nations Global Compact for Migration for the delivery of holistic and comprehensive negotiated agreement.

-The Rabat Process also known as the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development founded since 2006 is to create a comprehensive dialogue, build network, create framework for action and knowledge sharing

CADIZ ACTION PLAN code 51029:  5 Areas, 10 Objectives and 29 Actions  was agreed in 2022 via the 6th Ministerial Conference a with defined priorities.

A opportunity to delve into the progress and prosterity of Rabat Process.  A post Portuguese Chairmanship,  APA process ,a new concept can be examined as well. Asylum process and protection, creative legal pathways,  forced displacement etc

-Review of the Return Program; Risk of Return, Reintegration and Social impact

Return programs comes with its cost. For voluntary, it's coloration can be tricky if migrant Reintegration is not structured correctly.  The cultural stigma exists especially for those deported who do not have opportunity to leave with preparation.Adequate emotional support need to provided and local awareness for smooth Reintegration. Plus a question of the cost and benefits of this is equally important.

-Migration Metrics

Measurements of the different programs to ensure compliance  of the programs against background expectations.

Migration is golden and the careful distinction of the cause and effect; push and pull are unique evidences that need to be documented.Migrnats need to be seen as only a statistics but a component of skill, knowledge and competences.

An econometrics model to measure this will provide insight not only the understanding but socioeconomic effects

-Integration programs and Indices

This is a critical part of the Migration supply chain. Innovative thinking need to be put in place place, country by country to distinguish and welcome migrants. Also, this need to be inclusive

-Linkage between Research and Policy. The collaboration between Research and policy need to more coordial and friendly.

Bridging the gap is right for the society and an evaluation of policies as well is

- Politics of Migration. The rhetorics are diverse and fierce. Country by country. But fact checking shows that the hidden facts of Migration as economic catalyst.

Strength to distinguish false from facts is important
